Compassion Friends

Located in the south part of South America, Argentina has a triangle form. Its western limits rests over the Andes Mountains and its relief gets narrow from the North Tropic down to the South.
Its extensive territory shows a big climates variety and landscapes as big mountains and lakes, long rivers, the famous plains known as ´´Pampas´´, big plantations, vineyards, valleys, golden sandy beaches, and in the southernmost part of the world where the biggest oceans meet, there is the amazing island ´´TIERRA DEL FUEGO´´.
More far in the south is located the Antarctic continent where the Argentine territory ends in a beautiful white landscape.
Every place is amazing.
In the northeast of the country, in Misiones Province, the forest and the wide Iguazu River offers a unique and majestic showcase of the beautiful 275  FALLS jumping over 90 meters along the river.
Up in the Northwest there is an amazing variety of brightened up and snowy mountains, wild native animals, vineyards, history and handicrafts.
Argentina has the charm of a Latin country with all the influence of the European culture.

How to arrive
Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina and the main entrance to the country. It could be reached by direct flights from several cities of United States and Canada, all Latinamerica and the most important capitals of Europe..

Travelling around the country
Aerolíneas Argentinas and Lan are the airlines in charge of keeping united the most important destinations of the country and its capital city. Because of the big distances and the size of the country, the only way to visit the different cities is by plane.

Entry requirements
Passport and Visa: All visitors from non border countries, requires passport to enter into Argentina. For VISA requirements please visit: www.mrecic.gov.ar

Climate and clothes
Due to the extended territory there is a variety of climates from tropic up North to fresh and cold in the South. The opposite seasons with the North Hemisphere when here is winter in the North is summer. Buenos Aires climate is moderate without a main rainy season. May is Spring and the weather is cool and the temperature runs between 14 to 19 celcius degrees. So we recommend to be supplied by sweaters or medium jackets. There´s a chance to experience some rain but light.
May is a perfect season to visit other places in Argentina because of the moderate climate along the country.


Language
Spanish is the oficial language but english is spoken in many restaurants, hotels and stores.

Religion
In spite of the official religion is the Catholic there is an open criteria and freedom about that according with the National Constitution.
People is absolutely free to have a faith and religion anytime anywhere.


Currency
Argentina oficial currency isl Peso Argentino (AR$). Just for information purposes the estimated currency is about 1U$S = $ 3.  All foreign currencies are accepted at banks or money exchange offices located at International Airport and around the city. Most hotels and restaurants accept Euros and U$S dollars.

Time Zone
Argentina has three hours less than Greenwich Meridian.

220 volts.

Disabilities
People with special abilities will meet their needs at mosto hotels, meeting romos and restaurants.

Public Transportation
Taxi: Buenos Aires has a very large Taxi Service that fulfill the population service. We suggest to take Radio Taxi Service.
Buses: There is a big network of buses known as ´´colectivos´´ that cover the complete city and surroundings daily and nightly.
Subway: Seven interconnected lines runs down the most popular area of the city since 05:30am till 11:00pm.

Shopping
Buenos Aires is famous for its distinguished stores compared with the best ones in New York, Paris or London. The recommended products are leather made clothes, and gaucho souvenirs. On Sundays there´s a famous marketplace located in San telmo Square where you could find antique shops and art stores.

Food and drink
Argentina is well known throughout the world for the excellence of its meats, which is the result of the first-rate cattle industry developed in the country. A wide range of restaurants of various categories offers all kinds of specialties at walking distance from the congress venue. Barbecues are tasty, plentiful and cheap.
In addition, Argentine wines are excellent and unexpensive, their outstanding quality is recognized worldwidely. Restaurants are open until late.


Water supply
Water is good to drink, but we advise to drink bottled water. Argentina's bottled mineral water is excellent.

Security
We want to emphasize that Argentina in general and Buenos Aires in particular is a safe city, it is possible to walk around day or night with no risk (at least no more than in Paris or Tokyo). However, as in every big city, it is recommended to take care of the personal belongings.

Insurance
The organizing committee will accept no liability for personal injuries sustained by or loss or damage to property belonging to congress participants, either during or as a result of the congress or during the tours. It is , therefore, recommended that participants arrange their own personal health, accident and travel insurance.
